Institute Scholarship Schemes

Sibling Scholarship Scheme Family

Scholarship of 20% on tuition fee for the immediate sibling of an existing or former NIT student. A simple way to make education more affordable for families already part of the NIT journey.

Employee Scholarship Scheme JIS Group

Open to children and immediate siblings of permanent employees working in any unit of JIS Group and on a regular payroll. Applicable across all institutions in the group.

Alumni Scholarship Alumni

A 20% tuition fee scholarship for students who have completed a degree or diploma from any JIS Group institution and are now pursuing a second degree program within the group.

Sikh Community Scholarship Community

Students belonging to the Sikh Community may apply for a 50% freeship on their tuition fees. Applicants must provide appropriate community verification documents.

West Bengal Freeship Scheme (WBFS) Govt. of WB

Students receive a 50% freeship on tuition fees under this government scheme. Selections are made directly by the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal — no institute application needed.

Freeship (Financial Hardship) Need-based

Students from poor financial backgrounds may apply for freeship. Applicable from 2nd semester onwards only. Subject to satisfactory academic performance, attendance, and conduct. Freeship is capped (minimum 20% on tuition). Students who lose earning family members during the course may receive 50% freeship as per MAKAUT rules.

Tripura State Scholarship Lateral Entry

Scholarship offered for students from the State of Tripura seeking admission via Lateral Entry into B.Tech programs. Designed to support regional talent pursuing engineering education.

M.Tech Merit Scholarship PG · Merit

A 20% tuition fee scholarship per semester for external M.Tech students who scored a DGPA of 7.0 or above in their last qualifying examination. Rewards academic excellence at the postgraduate level.

Important to Know

Before You Apply

Freeship from 2nd Semester

Institute freeship based on financial need is considered only from the 2nd semester onwards. First-year students must pay regular fees unless under a specific government scheme.

Freeship is Capped at 20%

Due to increased applications, freeship on tuition is currently capped at a minimum of 20%. Performance, attendance, and conduct are checkpoints for renewal.

MAKAUT Bereavement Rule

If a student loses their primary earning family member during the course, they are entitled to 50% freeship on tuition as per MAKAUT institutional rules — automatically applicable.
